Have you ever felt like you weren’t really living? That you were just going through the motions, day after day, without experiencing any deeper meaning in life?

Think of the people you know who are completely checked out – the business man who moves through the routine of his life, giving his wife a dry peck on the cheek goodbye each morning without even noticing her reaction. The mother zoned out in front of the television, not even noticing her child whining for attention. The teen lost in cyber-space. The grocery clerk who says ‘have a nice day’ like a robot without even looking up as she hands over your grocery bag.

These are just a few examples. I know you can think of many people who are not fully present, not yet awake, not yet sourced from within.

The thing about life is that there are no guarantees. People don’t come stamped with an expiration date that lets us know how long we are going to live. One thing is certain – your soul wants you not only live but to live fully, to complete your spiritual curriculum and to get on with fulfilling your soul’s purpose.

I have two words of wisdom for you today: don’t wait.

People who are going through the motions are often stuck in ‘waiting’. They may be waiting for a better job opportunity. Waiting for the kid to grow up and start school. Waiting for their ship to come in. Waiting for Mr. Right to come along. Waiting to win the lottery. Or waiting to get to heaven.

Unfortunately for them, waiting simply begets more waiting. Or worse, their soul decides that it is tired of waiting, and fate throws them a specially-aimed curve ball.

One day the business man comes home early to find his wife in bed with another man. The mother finds her child eating the prescription pills that were accidentally left out on the bathroom counter. The teen finds out the friend he hasn’t seen in months just committed suicide. The grocery clerk gets laid off and finds a lump in her breast the very next day.

Have you or has anyone you’ve known had something completely unexpected thrown at them, seemingly from out of left field? It is as if a giant cosmic buzzer has gone off announcing ‘School is now in session!’

Life’s curve-balls can be seen as wake-up calls. The thing about being in a human body is that humans have free will, which means you get to choose whether or not you wish to wake up. Some people wake up with a giant burst of Love and compassion, using the divine curve-ball as a heart-opening opportunity. Other people simply tune out, turn off, or use it as an excuse to give up on life.

I’m sure you’ve heard the saying, ‘everything happens for a reason’. Everything does happen for a reason – that reason is soul-level learning. Everything that happens is a part of someone’s curriculum. If someone refuses to pick up their book for long enough, the book will end up falling on their foot or getting thrown in their face. And, if a person repeatedly refuses to pick up their book, they may get temporarily kicked out of Life School until they can get it together enough to enroll again.

Take it from me; avoiding your growth simply causes you more suffering. Don’t wait for life to have to throw you a curve-ball. Decide today to take full, 100% responsibility for your own consciousness and commit to completing your soul’s curriculum. As you show your willingness to grow and learn, you will begin to go with the flow, you will experience deeper meaning on a daily basis and life will begin unfold with grace and ease. Not to mention that joy will begin overflowing…
